DIY (Do-It-Yourself) catering is a great way to save time and money during group summer outings. Here are some food selection tips to satisfy your big group’s cravings:
1. Consider the venue where the food will be served.
If you have access to a kitchen, it is always best to freshly cook your food especially if you want to serve saucy dishes. Immediately store food in the oven to keep it warm and your salads and desserts inside the fridge. But when the event will be held outside, probably for a picnic, or a beach party, you may opt to serve dry foods. It can be either roasted, grilled, or fried, that will not easily spoil.
2. Go for variety of Go, Grow, Glow food
Barbeque, hotdogs, adobo and a hefty serving of rice are the usual outing food selections. However, it is always wise to complete your Go (Carbohydrates), Grow (Proteins) and Glow (Vegetables and Fruits) food. Balanced meals and ample water supply can help sustain your group’s needs despite being exposed to intense summer heat and engaging in various outing activities.
3. Learn to properly complement dishes
A play of contrast is the secret in complementing dishes. In the appearance of the food, you may opt to partner grilled pork or roasted chicken, with colorful vegetables to make your table spread more inviting and appetizing. In terms of dish profile, you can pair saucy Pinoy Ulam Recipes, such as menudo or kaldereta, with dry, fried foods like lumpiang toge. With regard to texture, you can complement this Crispy Fry® Chicken Wings with a delicious Dip and steamed or sautéed vegetable sticks, which goes well when going out for a swim in the beach or a picnic in the park.
Pointers for bulk cooking:
Vegetables are usually cheaper than meat when purchased in bulk. This not only cuts down the cost of your menu, but also brings in more nutrients to give your menu a healthy balance. You can also utilize seasonal vegetables to further cut down the cost.
There are a lot of foods that can be used to tweak your dish and increase its volume. Chicken Wings can be doubled in terms of volume by cutting it into two, the wing part and the breast connecting part. Other tricks to increase the volume of your dishes include the use of cylinder pastas (like penne, macaroni, etc.) and by creatively using food as extenders (such as potatoes and eggs for saucy dishes.)
There are Ajinomoto products in big packs for bulk cooking. Crispy Fry® Breading Mix has party pack that could coat 4 kilos of chicken. Other Ajinomoto products available in big packs are Sarsaya® Oyster Sauce, AJI-NO-MOTO® Umami Seasoning and Porksavor® All-in-One Seasoning Mix.
Try to cook this Crispy Fry® Chicken Wings with Dip for your next summer outing.
